RSD or Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy is a neurological condition that interferes with your brain signals regarding pain. For instance, when I have surgery ( or when other people's bodies experience traumatic events ) the nerves send a pain loop to the brain over and over long after the injury has healed.
The pain is slightly similar to Phantom Limb Pain. They say it is one of the worst pains out there, up there with terminal cancer patients pain. The area of injury is extremely sensitive to all touch, the skin becomes thin and discolored as well as swollen. This is a very short version of what RSD is. Here is a link to all things RSD: http://www.rsds.org/index2.html
I first got RSD right after high school. I had 2 shoulder surgeries( same shoulder) and it took about 10 years and many treatments to diffuse the pain. After a couple years I had foot surgery and thus began my latest round with RSD. I have had every treatment sometimes twice, and nothing has slowed it down yet. So, I know how frustrated and alone others out there may feel. I make no statements that I am an expert or a DR in this matter. I just want to let others know that there is someone else out there. And I hear you.
